Monte Alban is an ancient Mesoamerican site in southern Mexico near the city of Oaxaca, set on a hill in Oaxaca Valley. It is tied to the ancient Zapotec culture and has its origins in the Formative Period of Mesoamerica, though most of the buildings left today come from the Classic Era.
