Well, you nailed it Jeff. Aboslutely brilliant and powerfully written.
I could feel the desperation and longing as I read. I hope it wasn’t written from his personal perspective though, but maybe from the perspective of a non-believer. Either way, it’s so brilliant— and so WRONG! There’s a little “oxymoronism” for you.
Despite his clear knowledge of science, philosophy and religion, he’s been left with nothing and, as he states is, “alone”. The poem is clearly a demonstration in his disbelief or serious cynicism of existence of God and of prophecy. Ironically though, his feelings and beliefs (or lack there of) were PROPHESIED by Paul in Timothy 3:
” 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be…proud, blasphemers…unthankful, unholy…false accusers, heady, highminded… 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof…. 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ”
My heart aches for him.

This poem was extremely depressing and very disturbing if it was written by someone who is LDS. And no, I am not related to Jeff Lindsay.

Brilliant poem… Genuine and unique voice. He has written a poem that equals Ginsberg’s “America” or Bly’s “The Teeth Mother Naked At Last” . It resonates with the power of the Old Testament. It’s a spooky, compelling and eerie description of our time.

So lonely! A powerful poem, you are right. Maybe goes too far, even for one who accepts the atheistic view. But nicely written, to be sure.
